Shawnee Park Pinetum Planting Complete

Back to News & Updates

Thanks to a MSD Urban Reforestation grant awarded to Olmsted Parks Conservancy 57 trees were planted in Shawnee Park. This planting is called a pinetum, a term meaning, “Arboretum of pine trees or other conifers for scientific or ornamental purposes”. This newly planted pinetum in Shawnee Park has 23 varieties of evergreens and was planted according to the original landscape plans for Shawnee Park designed by Olmsted in the late 1890’s.
