Help Us Get the Bingham Park Renovation Started!

Back to News & Updates

Olmsted Parks Conservancy raises funds and advocates for investment for Louisville’s parks, and we work to help build community in and around the Olmsted Parks. We center community voices through feedback from park users, neighborhood groups, and other key stakeholders regarding park projects and programming needs in their neighborhood parks.

Recent projects that are currently underway include walkway improvements in Central Park, a new nature play area and accessible playground in Iroquois Park, and renovations to the Main Lodge and tennis courts in Chickasaw Park.

This year, we asked Mayor Greenberg to include $1.5 million in Louisville Parks and Recreation’s budget so that we can begin improvements to Bingham Park.

What You Should Know:

After decades of no capital investment, a restored and reimagined Bingham Park will provide a walkable destination with features uniquely suited to the needs of the local community. It will offer a space that can form the backdrop for neighborhood gatherings and festivities, from families enjoying the new playground to actors showcasing their talents at a new amphitheater. Bingham Park will again be the heart of this community.

  • Park improvements will include regrading Coral Avenue entrance to be ADA accessible, demolition of existing playground, spray ground and restroom facility; construction of new walkways, restrooms, splash pad and playground
  • We will work in partnership with The Dot Experience and KY School for the Blind to ensure that the park will be a national model for state-of-the-art accessibility features.
  • This project has the support of the Clifton Community Council, American Printing House, and Council Members Andrew Owen and Ken Herndon.

We Need Your Voice

Mayor Craig Greenberg has included the funding for Bingham Park in his proposed FY27 budget for the Louisville Parks & Recreation Department, and we need your help contacting Metro Council to ensure that this funding remains in the budget.

You can find the Mayor’s proposed budget, a schedule of Metro Council meetings related to the proposed budget, and a link to submit comments here.

It is also helpful for you to reach out to the Council Members directly. And remember, all twenty-six members vote on the budget, not just your representative! Visit here to find contact information for each of the Council Members.

The Budget Committee has invited the public to speak on the FY27 Louisville Metro Budget on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.  Advanced registration is required.   The meeting will be held in the Metro Council Chambers located in City Hall at 601 W. Jefferson Street – use the 6th Street entrance. Registration will take place in person on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall on the 3rd floor outside Chambers.
