In order to restore the decaying Sunnyhill Pavilion in Iroquois Park, Olmsted Parks Conservancy received a $197,500 grant from Save America’s Treasures administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service.
At the start of the project students from Iroquois High School Magnet Career Academy Construction Technology Program served as project managers and performed construction work and then the project was wrapped up with the help of Brasch Barry Construction Company and Metro Parks.
Restoration involved a completely dismantling the roof, eaves and railings around the structure. Painting, paving a walkway to the structure and final landscaping helped finish the project. Thanks to the grant and help from Metro Parks and the community this historic pavilion has been restored.
