We are fortunate to have a talented group of undergraduate students interning with us this summer. They are studying diverse fields, but each is contributing a great deal to our work in the Olmsted Parks.
Billy Fenton: A history major at Drew University in New Jersey, Billy is helping us compile readily accessible and detailed historical timelines of the Olmsted Parks. In addition, he will be organizing our large collections of maps. As a Louisvillian and lifelong Cherokee Park neighbor, Billy says he is enjoying learning the history of Louisville’s parks, a topic he would not otherwise have an opportunity to study in-depth.
Nick Jones: An ecology major at the University of Louisville, Nick loves working outside and hopes to one day to serve as a park ranger for the National Park Service. He has worked in the horticulture department for years at the Louisville Zoo and is particularly enjoying learning to identify invasive species and the best practices for invasive species removal in the Olmsted Parks.
Kacy Machir: A geography major with an emphasis on environmental analysis at the University of Louisville, Kacy hopes to work for the American Conservation Cops when he graduates. He is excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Anna Krippenstapel, one of our members on the Team for Healthy Parks, because of her in-depth knowledge about trees
Onajia Stubblefield: A civil and environmental engineering student at the University of Louisville Speed School, Onajia is enjoying learning about Frederick Law Olmsted and his impact Louisville’s historic park system. Onajia appreciates the opportunity to gain supervisory skills while working with volunteer groups.
Carly Nunamaker: A biology major at the University of Louisville, Carly is working with our Team for Healthy Parks, and is also blogging about her experiences on the brand new blog she created for the Conservancy. Visit the blog at olmstedparks502. wordpress.com. Carly enjoys assisting with park restoration, but also being part of the behind the scenes work in the office.
