January is prime time for tree planting!

Back to News & Updates

What’s happening in January? It’s still a great time for our team to plant trees in the parks! In the winter months when trees are dormant, they can put all their energy into establishing a strong root system, rather than working on roots and leaves at the same time. Trees also require less irrigation in the colder seasons. When we plant trees in January, we set them up for long term success!

Our favorite tree species are native to our area and provide habitat for wildlife while adding beauty for park visitors. Interested in planting a tree on your property, or working with us to have a tree planted in a park in honor of a loved one? Here are our favorites:

Canopy Trees:

Oak

Tulip

Elm

Sycamore

Understory Trees

Paw Paw

Redbud

Dogwood

Buckeye

Shrubs:

Spicebush

Coralberry
