Natural News – January Tree Planting

Back to News & Updates

January is a great time to plant trees, and a busy season for our team installing them in our Olmsted Park System! In the winter months when trees are dormant, they can put all their energy into establishing a strong root system, rather than working on roots and leaves at the same time. Trees also require less irrigation in the colder seasons.

Our favorite tree species are native to our area and provide habitat for wildlife while adding beauty for park visitors. Interested in planting a tree on your property, or working with us to have a tree planted in a park in honor of a loved one? Here is a list of some of our favorite tree species:

Canopy Trees:

Oak

Tulip

Elm

Sycamore

Understory Trees

Paw Paw

Redbud

Dogwood

Buckeye

Shrubs:

Spicebush

Coralberry
