Fred's Facts

Frederick Law Olmsted believed parks would educate and civilize citizens, that they would provide physical and spiritual blessings to people from tenements and sweatships as well as those from expensive mansions. He believed all people would meet and mingle in parks, thus overcoming the barriers of class and wealth. He believed in the power of parks to elevate humankind.

Volunteer Event: MLK, Jr. Day of Service
January 15, 2018 10:00 AM - January 15, 2018 12:00 PM

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a way to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen local communities.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'”

We encourage you to get involved to help make our community parks extraordinary, and make the King Day of Service, “A Day On, Not a Day Off!”

Tasks may include mulching, planting and general beautification. Olmsted Parks Conservancy provides gloves, tools and guidance. Participants need to dress for the weather and working outdoors. Register Now!
