Although captivated throughout his career by large, rural parks, during his later years Frederick Law Olmsted became intrigued by the social possibilities created by small urban spaces. Small neighborhood parks, playgrounds and squares might provide opportunities for respite from the congestion and noise of urban life.

Power of Olmsted Parks Breakfast

Join us for breakfast and Heine Brothers’ Coffee to learn how the Frederick Law Olmsted Parks strengthen our city and citizens and how you can help strengthen these historic parks. This is a fast-paced event featuring dynamic presenters.

Keynote Speaker: Mr. Dan Jones, Chairman and CEO of 21st Century Parks, is a founder of The Parklands of Floyds Fork, Louisville’s newest park system inspired by the legacy of the Olmsted Parks. Mr. Jones is an expert on the value of parks and how they strengthen our community.

Guest Speaker: Mr. George Tinsley is an entrepreneur and former NCAA champion who played for the Kentucky Colonels. He credits his roots on the basketball courts in Louisville’s Olmsted Parks for teaching him life’s most valuable lessons.

Networking and check-in begins at 7:30am, breakfast will start promptly at 8:00am, and the event will conclude no later than 9:00am.

Earth Path Education’s Nature Roots Camp is returning to Cherokee Park! Their staff will lead earth skills adventures to help children ages 7-12 connect with nature, the community and themselves. The program aims to inspire skills of awareness and listening, teamwork, and empowerment as participants learn:
Ancestral Crafts- basketry, water vessels, clay cookware, natural pigments
Primitive Skills- shelter building, flint-napping, cordage, friction fire
Plant Wisdom- Identifying edible and medicinal plants, medicine making
Nature Awareness- tracking, bird language, camouflage, stalking, mapping
Community Connection- Storytelling, team building, games, songs
