Shawnee Park Guided RiverWalk

Experience Shawnee Park the way Olmsted intended!

Join us for a guided exploration of Shawnee Park, one of three “flagship” parks designed in Louisville by Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1800’s (along with Cherokee and Iroquois Parks). Amidst the beautiful backdrop of autumn, we’ll hike past unique park features (such as the “Pinetum,” a curated collection of pine family trees) on our way to the RiverWalk, where we’ll take in scenic views of the Ohio River just as Olmsted envisioned. All along the way, we’ll hear from Education Program Manager Matt Spalding about the ecology of the river and the birds and trees that make this park special. Afterward, hang out at Shawnee Pavilion for complimentary warm apple cider and donuts!

Registration is Required

Tickets are FREE for Olmsted Parks Conservancy members and $8 for non-members (children under 13 may accompany a paid adult for free, but must be registered in advance).

Tour is rain or shine, but may be subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of severe weather. Weather-appropriate clothes and footwear with good tread are encouraged.

Day-Of Details

We’ll meet by 1:00pm at Shawnee Park Pavilion (large parking lot available), located on the one-way scenic loop road just across the street from the Dirt Bowl. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure a prompt start. This is an approximately 1-mile hike along both paved and natural terrain, with some uphill and downhill slopes.
