CANCELLED: Car-Free Cherokee
⚠️ Lexington Road near Cherokee Park will be closed to through traffic until 4/28 while Louisville Water Company finishes construction on the Eastern Parkway Project – a $26 million dollar initiative to replace 6.4 miles of water mains (funded through Louisville Water’s capital budget).
⛔ This closure will cut off ALL access to Cherokee Park from Lexington Road. If you are trying to visit park areas like Rugby Field or Cochran Hill Dog Park, please use an alternate entrance (Alexander Rd, Eastern Pkwy) and access via Scenic Loop.
Due to the Lexington Road closure and concerns from LMPD and neighbors, #CarFreeCherokee will be canceled for February (2/23), March (3/29). And as a reminder, there will be no #CarFreeCherokee on April 26 due to the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair.
☀️We look forward to celebrating the return of #CarFreeCherokee with you on May 31!
Frederick Law Olmsted designed Cherokee Park in 1891 as way for Louisvillians to escape busy city life – but cars driving around Scenic Loop bring more of the city into our parks. That’s why we’re continuing Car-Free Cherokee throughout 2020 – giving park users a chance to enjoy Scenic Loop in Cherokee Park car-free once a month!
With support from local neighbors and park users, Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Louisville Parks and Recreation will be closing Scenic Loop on the last Sunday of the month (between 8 AM – 2 PM) so walkers, runners, and bikers can enjoy a serene Sunday in Cherokee Park without worrying about vehicle traffic.
We recommend those with limited-mobility park on Alexander Road. Cherokee Golf Course will remain open during this time and golfers can continue to access to the clubhouse through Alexander Road.
