Chickasaw Park pollinator meadow update

Back to News & Updates

Olmsted Parks Conservancy is honored to bring the Butterfly and Bee Pollinator Meadow to Chickasaw Park in honor of Muhammad Ali! Ali is the park’s most famous user, and many neighbors remember seeing him jogging and training there.

If you visit the newly restored Chickasaw Park Pond, you will see that the sign has been installed, and the turf grass removed to make space for the new pollinator friendly plants.

The area was seeded in late June. Since this is such a large-scale installation, we have contracted with a company that specializes in this type of project.

Our Horticulture Specialist will be monitoring the growth of the meadow. She expects that, after the seed germinates, we will see some growth this fall. However, the full beauty of the meadow will not be on display until spring/summer of 2026.

We are grateful for the support of The National Enviromental Education Foundation, Toyota, the Glenview Garden Club and the Garden Club of America for making the Butterfly and Bee Pollinator Meadow a reality!
