Upgrades for Algonquin Park

Back to News & Updates

Metro Parks Department started last year working on many new improvements to Algonquin Park.  Improvements include a new, 800-square foot pavilion, a 3/8 mile concrete walking path, a new football field with goal posts, a new baseball field with backstop and renovated bathrooms along with new benches and accessible picnic areas.

In addition to the aesthetic improvements, access to the park will also be improved for pedestrians and vehicles. Two new entrances from Beech Street at the northeast and northwest corners of the park will be created, as well as new pedestrian access to the park from Dr. W. J. Hodges Street. There will also be increased parking on Burwell Avenue for the park and a new service road for the park’s outdoor swimming pool. The project is due to be completed by early 2011.
