Frederick Law Olmsted believed parks would educate and civilize citizens, that they would provide physical and spiritual blessings to people from tenements and sweatships as well as those from expensive mansions. He believed all people would meet and mingle in parks, thus overcoming the barriers of class and wealth. He believed in the power of parks to elevate humankind.

Who is Fred? Frederick Law Olmsted, the visionary landscape architect who designed 18 parks and 6 parkways in Louisville including Iroquois, Shawnee and Cherokee. Frederick Law Olmsted also designed Central Park in New York City, the US capitol grounds and the Biltmore Estate grounds in North Carolina.
What does it mean to be part of Fred’s Team? It means you run and train for your KY Derby Festival Race like you typically would, but you also use your run to help raise money for the Olmsted Parks. We ask team members set a goal of raising $500. All the money raised goes back to the work we do in the Olmsted Parks, things like planting thousands of trees each year, maintaining and building trails, repairing and restoring picnic shelters, and removing invasive plants. These are just a few ways the dollars you raise will help improve the parks.
Training Support: If you are interested in training with a group BlueMile Running Store is offering a free training program to Fred’s Team members. We meet on Saturdays at 8 am at the Highlands BlueMile Store on Bardstown Road. Running with the group is optional; you are free to train on your own if you choose!
How do I join Fred’s Team? You set up a fundraising page here and then click on “Become a Fundraiser” at the top of the page. It will also require you to set up an active.com registration if you do not already have one.
How do I raise funds? Your friends and family can make donations on your webpage! It is easy, a lot easier than running 13 or 26 miles!! We will also offer letter templates and other fundraising support to help you reach your goal.
