Olmsted Parks - Restore. Enhance. Preserve.

Volunteer as a Park Champion!

Spend one day a year or a few hours each day, week or month taking part in a Park Champion project. Do it single-handedly, or get a group of friends together. You’ll have fun and get fit while helping us hold our ground. You and your family or friends can help root out invasive plants, rebuild trails and restore native plants in our parks. While the parks may look lush and green, these urban natural areas are dying and in desperate need of your help. Even if you’ve never volunteered before, or you’ve never planted a tree, you can protect the future of Louisville’s Olmsted Parks!

Manage a Zone in the Parks

If you’re ready for a lasting commitment to the parks you love, organize a group and join our Olmsted Parks Zone Management Program. Your small or large group will take on a specific park area tailored to your interests and the needs of the park. Projects last one year or longer and involve at least six work sessions each year. It’s an excellent program for school groups, families, community organizations or entire neighborhoods.

Don’t have a green thumb or don’t like to get dirty?

Volunteer to help in our office with mailings, data entry, and event coordination. Or come out to help us with education and outreach, volunteer at our informational booths at neighborhood festivals!

Volunteer Highlights

Matthew Blandford joined Park Champions over a year ago when he moved to a home with no yard. He has since moved into a new home with a yard of his own, but has come to enjoy knowing the other volunteers and Conservancy staff, being part of the restoration efforts in our parks, and learning more about the history and ecology of our community’s urban refuges.

Matthew works as an Energy Consultant for Summit Energy, and helps clients find projects to reduce energy consumption at industrial facilities. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys landscaping his backyard, restoring his home, and riding his bike around town.

Volunteering with the Conservancy ensures that he and other busy folk will continue to have natural areas like Cherokee to enjoy.

Thanks for all your help Matthew!

We've had a busy year with so many wonderful volunteers. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank them for their time and energy:

Restoring health to our woodlands, ponds, meadows and other natural areas takes a lot of hands-on effort. We need YOUR help too! Individuals, families and groups can take part in projects that will root out invasive plants, rebuild trails, create retention ponds, and restore native plants. If you're interested in volunteering in Louisville's Olmsted Parks, call (502) 456-8125 or e-mail sarah.wolff@olmstedparks.org.

We hope to see you in the parks soon!
