????????????????????????????????????

Olmsted Parks Conservancy volunteer Lauryn Grady has implemented a recycling program for Seneca and Cherokee Parks. Grady, an Assumption High School student is an advocate for the environment and parks and hopes all park users will participate.

The plan, solely proposed by Lauryn , came about because her cross-country practice takes her to Seneca Park each day. During her practice, she noticed the high volume of recyclables in trash containers, and wanted to do something about it so she reached out to Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

“Lauryn’s efforts are an inspiration for all of us who are committed to improving our Olmsted Parks and the environment,” stated Mimi Zinniel, President/CEO of Olmsted Parks Conservancy.

Lauryn’s plan will run for four months and then will be reviewed with Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Metro Parks & Recreation. Recycling receptacles are located in popular areas in the parks, here’s a map of the locations.

As part of the project plan, Lauryn will collect the contents of the recycling receptacles and take items to the recycling center. Metro Parks & Recreation donated receptacles and Lauryn painted them to be identifiable as recycling.

For her great initiative, Councilman Bill Hollander presented Lauryn with the “Ninth District Distinguished Citizen Award”.
