Iroquois Park for Frederick Law Olmsted represented “a treasure of sylvan scenery” providing “the grandeur of the forest depths in the dim seclusion of which you may wander musingly for hours.”

Now on Exhibit: Park Paintings

April 16, 2014

The Plein Air Painters of Kentucky, founded in 1998 by Jane Morgan, consists of a group of artists who paint area landscapes, streetscapes, historic areas, and waterways in the Kentuckiana region. Over the last year, these artists have been painting the picturesque Olmsted Parks of Louisville.

The French term “en plein air” means “in open air.” Painting on site allows the artists to experience (feel and see) the fullness of their natural surroundings. “We enjoy painting in the Olmsted Parks because each park has its own identity and each has so much of nature’s beauty and power to offer Plein Air Painters an opportunity to create, experience, invent, and lose one’s self in nature’s beauty, which abounds in these parks!” stated Jane Morgan.

The 26 artists, inspired by the beauty of our Olmsted Parks, will exhibit over 90 paintings. The Conservancy’s 2015 calendar, available this fall, will feature many of the paintings.
